Flaky Juniper 'Meyeri'
'Meyeri' is a distinctively upright but spreading juniper, often called the Fishscale Juniper. It is known for its arching, vase-shaped habit and its striking steel-blue, prickly foliage. In the UK, it has been a garden favourite for decades due to its strong colour and architectural form. As the plant ages, the inner foliage can turn brown and the bark flakes, which is a natural characteristic. It is very hardy and thrives in full sun in almost any well-drained soil, including poor or alkaline ones. It can reach 2-3 metres in height but its growth can be managed by pruning. It is particularly effective when used in a mixed border where its blue tones contrast with purple-leaved shrubs or silver perennials. It is also quite drought-tolerant once established. It produces small, black, berry-like cones that add further interest. It's a reliable, structural conifer that brings a mountain-esque aesthetic to the garden.
