Shore Juniper 'Allgold'

'Allgold' is a vibrant, prostrate conifer that is exceptionally useful as a ground cover in coastal gardens or sandy soils. As a cultivar of the Shore Juniper, it is highly tolerant of salt spray and poor, dry conditions once established. The foliage consists of prickly, needle-like leaves that are a brilliant, limey-gold throughout the year. It grows low to the ground, forming a dense, spreading carpet that is excellent for suppressing weeds. The bright colour is particularly effective when used to contrast with dark green shrubs or purple-leaved perennials. Unlike many prostrate junipers, 'Allgold' maintains a very neat and tidy appearance without becoming sprawling or leggy. It is very hardy and performs best in full sun, which intensifies the golden hue of the needles. It is also an excellent choice for a sunny rockery or for cascading over the edge of a balcony planter. It requires excellent drainage to prevent root rot in the wetter UK winters.
