Soft Rush 'Spiralis'
Juncus effusus 'Spiralis', affectionately known as the Corkscrew Rush, is a curious and highly architectural plant that is a favorite in UK water gardens. This cultivar is famous for its dark green, cylindrical, leafless stems that grow in tight, corkscrew-like spirals, creating a tangled, whimsical mess of foliage. In summer, it may produce small, inconspicuous brown flower clusters that emerge from the sides of the stems. Growing to about 45cm in height, it is an excellent choice for adding texture and interest to the pond margin. It is evergreen in milder winters and remarkably hardy (H6). It can grow in wet soil or in shallow water up to 10cm deep. Because of its unique form, it is often used as a specimen plant in patio water features or small ponds where its structural qualities can be seen up close. It prefers a position in full sun.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Wet soil or shallow water.
