Common Jasmine 'Clotted Cream'
'Clotted Cream' is a superior cultivar of the much-loved common white jasmine. As the name suggests, its flowers are a rich, buttery cream colour rather than pure white, and they are significantly larger than those of the species. The fragrance is just as intense, if not more so, making it one of the most scented climbers available for the UK garden. It is a vigorous, deciduous to semi-evergreen climber with delicate, pinnate leaves. It flowers profusely from early summer into autumn. Growing up to 8 metres, it is perfect for training over an archway, pergola, or around a window where its scent can drift into the house. It is hardy (H5) but rewards being planted in a sheltered, sunny spot which helps to maximise flower production and scent. To keep it tidy and prevent it from becoming a tangled mass, it should be thinned out and pruned back after flowering. Its warm floral tones and incredible perfume make it a first-rate choice.
