Dwarf Bearded Iris 'Banbury Ruffles'
This is a stunning dwarf iris that is perfectly scaled for the rock garden, reaching only about 15-20cm in height. 'Banbury Ruffles' is famous for its rich, deep blue to violet flowers with beautifully ruffled petals and a darker blue 'beard'. It blooms in mid to late spring, providing a dramatic vertical element and intense colour at a time when many other alpines are just starting. It is fully hardy (H6) and requires a position in full sun to flower well. The rhizomes should be planted so they are partially exposed to the sun, which helps them 'bake' and set the following year's flower buds. They prefer a well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil and should be divided every few years to maintain vigour. Its sword-like foliage provides a different texture in the rock garden, contrasting well with the more common cushion-forming plants.碎
