Dwarf Iris 'Katherine Hodgkin'
This extraordinary dwarf iris is a hybrid between Iris winogradowii and Iris histrioides, offering a unique and captivating colour palette. Emerging in late winter, often through the snow, the flowers feature large falls with a pale blue-grey background, intricately veined with deeper sea-blue and punctuated with bright yellow crests and dark spotting. At only 10-15cm tall, it is a miniature marvel that is best appreciated at the front of a border, in a rock garden, or in a raised alpine trough where its details can be seen closely. It is fully hardy (H7) and remarkably resilient against the British winter. It prefers a well-drained soil in a sunny position where the bulbs can 'bake' in the summer sun after the foliage has died back. Its reliable return and striking appearance make it one of the most popular spring bulbs for UK enthusiasts.
