Copper Iris
Iris fulva, the Copper Iris, is a striking species native to North America, but perfectly hardy and stunning in UK bog gardens and pond margins. It is distinguished by its unique, rich coppery-red to reddish-brown flowers, which appear in late spring to early summer. The slender, elegant blooms have distinctive signal patches that can range from yellow to orange, adding to their allure. It features upright, sword-shaped, grey-green foliage, providing architectural interest. This moisture-loving perennial thrives in consistently moist to boggy soil or shallow water (up to 10cm deep), preferring full sun. Growing to a height of 60-90cm with a spread of 45-60cm, it offers an unusual and sophisticated colour palette to the waterside.
