Japanese Water Iris 'Rose Queen'
'Rose Queen' is an exquisite cultivar of Iris ensata, bringing a softer romantic palette to the pond edge. It produces elegant, flattened flowers in a gorgeous shade of dusty rose-pink, with delicate veining and a small, contrasting yellow signal at the centre of each fall. Reaching a height of roughly 60-80cm, it has typical sword-shaped, mid-green leaves that form an attractive clump. Like other Japanese Irises, it is a marginal plant that thrives in very wet, boggy soil or can be placed in very shallow water during the growing season. It is essential to plant it in acidic, lime-free soil, as it will struggle and yellow in alkaline conditions. It is fully hardy (H6) and enjoys a position in full sun, where its delicate pink blooms can be fully appreciated in midsummer. It is a perfect choice for those wishing to move away from the traditional blues and yellows of aquatic irises.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Moist, acidic, humus-rich soil.
