Japanese Water Iris 'Dinner Plate Blue Blueberry'
This spectacular cultivar of the Japanese Water Iris is known for its truly enormous flowers, which can reach up to 20cm in diameter. The blooms are a stunning shade of violet-blue with intricate white veining and a small, vivid yellow signal at the base of each petal. The 'Dinner Plate' series is bred for high flower counts and substantial size. Iris ensata differs from other pond irises in that it prefers to be kept very wet during the growing season but prefers to be slightly drier during its winter dormancy. In the UK, this is best achieved by planting it in a pot that can be moved to a shallower shelf or a boggy area in winter. It requires lime-free (acidic) soil to thrive; in alkaline conditions, the foliage will yellow and the plant will struggle. When grown in the right conditions, it is a magnificent focal point for the early summer garden, providing architectural foliage and breathtaking floral displays.吹
