Japanese Water Iris 'Crystal Halo'

'Crystal Halo' is a spectacular cultivar of the Japanese Water Iris, prized for its dramatic and large orchid-like flowers. Each bloom is deep violet-purple with a distinctive white edge or 'halo' around the ruffled falls, accented by a bright yellow signal at the base. It typically reaches a height of 80-90cm. While often associated with pond edges, it is strictly a marginal plant that enjoys being damp but not submerged deeply; it prefers its crown to be just above the water level or in boggy soil. In the UK, it provides a sophisticated look to the waterside from mid to late summer. It is an acid-loving plant, so it should be grown in lime-free soil or compost. It is fully hardy (H6) but requires a sunny spot to flower well. After flowering, the attractive sword-like foliage continues to provide vertical interest until autumn.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Moist, acidic, humus-rich soil.

Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
