Japanese Water Iris 'Rose Queen'
Iris ensata 'Rose Queen' is a stunning cultivar of the Japanese Water Iris, prized for its large, flattened, orchid-like flowers. The blooms are a delicate clear pink with dark violet veining and a small yellow signal at the base of each petal. Reaching up to 80-90cm, it provides elegant vertical interest from mid to late summer. Unlike some other water irises, I. ensata has specific cultural needs: it loves being wet during the growing season but prefers to be slightly drier in the winter. Therefore, it is perfectly suited to the damp margins of a pond but should be planted where the water levels recede in autumn or in a well-managed bog garden. It requires lime-free (acid to neutral) soil to thrive. It is fully hardy (H7) and should be situated in full sun. 'Rose Queen' is an exquisite choice for adding sophisticated color and form to the pond edge.
