Dutch Iris 'Dutch Sky'
'Dutch Sky' is a sophisticated bulbous iris that brings architectural height and cool tones to Mediterranean-themed plantings. In late spring, it produces large, elegant flowers with pale silvery-blue standards and falls that feature a striking splash of golden yellow. These are held on stiff, upright stems above narrow, grass-like foliage. Reaching approximately 60cm, they are superb for cutting and add a vertical element to the middle of a sunny border. In the UK, these bulbs should be planted in autumn in a warm, sunny spot with excellent drainage. They are very hardy (H6) but require the summer sun to ripen the bulbs for the following year's display. Once the foliage has died back, the bulbs can be left in the ground, though they are often treated as temporary bedding in more formal schemes. They pair beautifully with lavender and other silver-leaved Mediterranean shrubs.
