Common Morning Glory Landscape 'Kniolas Black-Knight'

This striking Morning Glory cultivar offers some of the darkest flowers in the genus. 'Kniola's Black-Knight' features large, trumpet-shaped blooms of an intense, velvety purple-black with a glowing rose-pink throat. It is a vigorous annual climber, reaching heights of 2-3 metres in a single season. In the UK, it is best grown against a sunny, sheltered wall, over a trellis, or up a series of obelisks. As a half-hardy annual, the seeds should be soaked overnight before sowing in spring. It needs the warmth of a British midsummer to really pick up speed. The flowers open in the early morning and typically fade by afternoon, but they are produced in such volume that the plant is always covered in colour. It requires a fertile soil and plenty of water during dry spells to maintain its rapid growth. It is a spectacular choice for creating a vertical focal point with a touch of drama.
