Sweet Potato 'Beauregard'

'Beauregard' is one of the most widely grown sweet potato cultivars, known for its high yields and delicious, sweet, orange-fleshed tubers. The sprawling vines can spread up to 2-3m, forming a dense ground cover, and are H1C hardy, requiring a very warm, sheltered spot in the UK, often grown with cloche or fleece protection. It thrives in full sun and light, well-drained soil. Plant 'slips' (sprouts) after all danger of frost has passed in late spring/early summer. Harvest before the first frost in autumn. The leaves are also edible, offering a spinach-like vegetable. While primarily grown for tubers, it can produce attractive, trumpet-shaped, purple flowers in warmer climates. A rewarding crop in warmer UK summers.
