Starflower 'Alberto Castillo'
Ipheion uniflorum 'Alberto Castillo' is a particularly robust and free-flowering cultivar of the starflower, producing an abundance of larger-than-species pure white, star-shaped flowers with a delicate blue blush at the base. These charming spring-flowering bulbs reach a height of 10-20cm and spread readily to form attractive carpets. The narrow, grass-like leaves emit a slight oniony scent when bruised. 'Alberto Castillo' thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. It is excellent for rock gardens, front of borders, and naturalising under deciduous trees, where it can create a stunning display. This plant is relatively drought-tolerant once established and generally pest-free. The flowers attract early pollinators, adding to its garden value. Its prolific blooming and pristine white colour make it a stand-out choice among starflowers, offering reliable performance and beauty.
