Spring Starflower

Ipheion uniflorum, commonly known as Spring Starflower, is a delightful and hardy tuberous perennial that graces UK gardens with charming, star-shaped flowers in early to mid-spring. The delicate pale blue to white blooms often have a darker stripe down the centre of each petal and emit a subtle, sweet fragrance. Its slender, grass-like foliage has a mild onion scent when bruised. This plant is excellent for naturalising in lawns, rock gardens, or along the front of borders, where it can form dazzling carpets of colour. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil. Ipheion is incredibly low maintenance, multiplies readily, and provides a cheerful and fragrant welcome to spring, attracting early pollinators.
