Giant Inula
Inula magnifica is a true giant of the perennial world, ideal for gardeners looking to make a bold, architectural statement. It is a robust, clump-forming plant that can reach heights of up to 2 metres or more. In late summer, it produces large, daisy-like flowers that can be up to 15cm across. These striking blooms have very narrow, wispy yellow petals surrounding a dark orange central disc, giving them a slightly wild and shaggy appearance. The basal leaves are enormous, can be up to a metre long, and are roughly hairy, providing significant groundcover. Due to its size, it is best suited to the back of a large border or a wilder part of the garden where it has plenty of room to expand. It thrives in moist, fertile soil and is very hardy. It is a fantastic plant for attracting a wide variety of insects, especially bees. It is a low-maintenance giant that provides both floral impact and massive structural foliage for the larger UK garden.
