Hyssop 'Albus'

'Albus' is the elegant, white-flowered form of the ancient medicinal herb, Hyssop. This semi-evergreen sub-shrub has a neat, upright, and bushy habit, making it an excellent candidate for a low flowering hedge or for edging an herb garden. It has narrow, dark green, aromatic leaves that have a bitter, minty-camphor scent and have been used historically in both medicine and cooking. From midsummer into early autumn, it is adorned with dense spikes of pure white flowers that are a magnet for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. It is a tough and reliable plant for the UK climate, being both drought-tolerant and fully hardy. It performs best in a sunny position in well-drained soil and will benefit from a light pruning in spring to maintain a compact shape and encourage plenty of flowers. It provides a crisp, clean look to the herb border and serves as a wonderful contrast to purple-flowered herbs like lavender or sage.
