Mount Olympus St. John's Wort 'Citrinum'

Hypericum olympicum 'Citrinum' is a dwarf, deciduous to semi-evergreen sub-shrub that adds a luminous touch to the alpine garden. It forms a neat, rounded mound of small, glaucous, grey-green leaves on upright stems. In mid-summer, it produces large, star-shaped, pale lemon-yellow flowers, each featuring a prominent and decorative central mass of long stamens. This cultivar is often preferred over the species for its more subtle, sophisticated flower colour which blends more easily with other pastel alpines. It is an incredibly tough and drought-tolerant plant that thrives in poor, well-drained soils and full sun. It is ideal for the rockery, gravel garden, or as a low-maintenance pot plant. To keep the plant vigorous and promote a good shape, it can be pruned back hard in late winter or early spring before new growth commences. It is fully hardy across most of the UK.
