St. John's Wort 'Magical Pumpkin'

Hypericum inodorum 'Magical Pumpkin' is a modern, deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub cultivated primarily for its highly decorative autumn fruit. This compact, bushy plant produces clusters of bright yellow, star-shaped flowers with prominent stamens in mid-summer. However, these are quickly followed by the main attraction: large, eye-catching berries that turn a vivid, warm pumpkin-orange. These berries persist for many weeks and are popular in floral arrangements. The foliage is dark green and aromatic when crushed. It is a hardy (H4), reliable plant that thrives in a variety of situations but performs best in full sun or partial shade with moist but well-drained soil. It is particularly effective when planted in groups or at the front of a border where the berries can be enjoyed up close. It should be pruned back hard in early spring to encourage fresh new growth and a prolific berry display. It is generally resistant to rust, which can affect some other Hypericum species.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade碎.

Soil: Moist but well-drained soil.

Hardiness: H4 — down to −10°C.

Flowering: Jul, Aug.
