Mophead Hydrangea 'Madame Emile Mouillère'

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Madame Emile Mouillère' is widely considered one of the best white mophead hydrangeas for creating a lush, deciduous flowering hedge in partially shaded UK gardens. It features large, serrated, emerald-green leaves that provide a dense screen throughout the summer. From mid-summer through to autumn, it produces magnificent, large heads of pure white flowers that develop a delicate pink or blue tint as they age, depending on the soil pH. The blooms are held on sturdy stems and are excellent for cutting. This cultivar is notably more sun-tolerant and hardier than many other white hydrangeas. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. To maintain a hedge, it should be pruned in late winter or early spring; however, care must be taken as it flowers on the previous year's wood. Leaving the dried flower heads on the plant through winter provides architectural interest and protects the emerging buds from frost.
