Sea Buckthorn 'Hippophae rhamnoides'
Sea Buckthorn is a rugged, deciduous shrub or small tree renowned for its vibrant orange berries, which are exceptionally rich in vitamin C. The berries have a distinctive tart flavour, excellent for juices, jams, and sauces. It forms a dense, thorny thicket with attractive silvery-green, willow-like leaves, making it suitable for coastal areas, informal hedging, or wildlife gardens. It is dioecious, meaning male and female plants are required for fruit production; typically, one male plant can pollinate several females. It is exceptionally hardy and drought-tolerant. Inconspicuous flowers appear in April-May, with striking berries ripening from August through winter. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil.
