Lenten Rose
Helleborus orientalis, commonly known as the Lenten Rose, is an indispensable perennial for bringing winter and early spring colour to UK gardens. These evergreen plants form substantial clumps of leathery, deep green foliage, providing excellent ground cover. From late winter into spring, they produce a magnificent display of nodding, cup-shaped flowers in a huge array of colours, from pristine white and soft pink to deep plum, often with speckles or picotee edges. Growing to about 30-45cm tall, they thrive in partial to full shade and prefer moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Lenten Roses are fully hardy (H7) and long-lived, offering reliable beauty year after year, particularly effective when planted in groups.
