Alpine Baby's Breath 'Filou White'

'Filou White' is a compact, dwarf version of the creeping Gypsophila, forming a dense carpet of tiny, grey-green leaves. In early to mid-summer, it is completely smothered in hundreds of tiny, star-like white flowers, creating a delicate, misty effect that is quite different from many more 'solid' looking alpines. It is a vigorous grower but stays low to the ground, making it excellent for cascading over the edges of containers, troughs, or dry-stone walls. It is fully hardy (H6) and, like most Gypsophilas, it strongly prefers an alkaline soil and a position in full sun. It is a relatively low-maintenance plant that only requires a light trim after flowering to keep it looking neat and to encourage fresh foliage growth. Its airy texture provides a wonderful contrast to heavier-leaved plants like Saxifrages or Sedums, making it a valuable design tool in the rock garden.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Well-drained, alkaline soil.

Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.
