Globe Amaranth 'QIS White'

'QIS White' is a member of the "Quality In Seed" series, specifically bred for the professional cut flower market but equally excellent for UK home gardeners. It produces neat, globular white flower heads that felted and papery to the touch, held on strong, upright stems. Growing to about 60cm, it adds a unique architectural element to the garden. Gomphrena is exceptionally heat and drought tolerant, which is useful in a south-facing UK border during a dry summer. It is a half-hardy annual (H2) and requires a long growing season, so it must be sown indoors in February or March. The flowers are "everlasting" and are one of the best choices for dried floral arrangements, as they hold their shape and pure white colour indefinitely. In the garden, they have a long flowering period and are rarely bothered by pests. They prefer a well-drained soil and a position in full sun to thrive.

Sun: Full sun.

Soil: Well-drained, moderately fertile soil.

Hardiness: H2 — down to 1°C.

Flowering: Jul, Aug, Sep, Oct.
