Godetia / Clarkia 'Salmon Princess'

'Salmon Princess' is a dwarf, bushy annual that provides a spectacular display of large, cup-shaped flowers with a shimmering, silken texture. The blooms are a soft, glowing salmon-pink, often with a paler throat. Reaching only about 30-40cm in height, it is perfectly suited for the front of UK garden borders or for filling pots and containers. These plants are exceptionally easy to grow and are often included in children's seed mixes because of their reliability. They are best sown directly in the ground in March or April. Interestingly, Godetia actually flowers better in poorer soils; too much fertiliser will result in lush green leaves but very few flowers. They prefer the cooler, more temperate summers of the UK rather than extreme heat. Once the flowers fade, they can be pulled out and replaced with autumn bedding. They are H3 hardy and provide a very concentrated burst of colour during the height of summer.
