Godetia / Satin Flower 'Monarch Dwarf Mixed'
Godetias, often overlooked in modern gardening, are making a comeback in the UK for their incredible satiny texture and vibrant colours. The 'Monarch Dwarf Mixed' selection offers a compact habit, reaching only about 20-30cm, making it perfect for the front of a border or small containers. The flowers are cup-shaped and come in a range of bicolours and solids, including pinks, reds, and whites, often with contrasting markings. They have a distinct sheen that justifies the name 'Satin Flower'. Godetias are very easy to grow from a direct sowing in spring. They actually prefer the cooler, wetter summers of the UK compared to intense heat, making them a very reliable choice for British gardens. They make excellent and surprisingly long-lasting cut flowers if harvested when the first buds on the stem are just starting to open. They prefer well-drained soil and a sunny position but will tolerate very light shade.
