Satin Flower 'Azalea-flowered Mixed'
Godetia grandiflora (now often classified under Clarkia) 'Azalea-flowered Mixed' is a nostalgic annual that provides a riot of colour in the UK summer. These plants produce double or semi-double flowers with ruffled, crinkled petals that closely resemble azalea blossoms. The colour mix typically includes shades of salmon, rose, white, and crimson, often with striking blotches of a darker tone at the base of each petal. Reaching about 30-40cm in height, they have an upright, bushy habit that makes them ideal for bedding or containers. They are particularly valued for their ability to bloom well even in cooler, damper British summers when other annuals might struggle. They prefer a position in full sun but appreciate soil that does not dry out completely. To ensure a long flowering season, it is best to sow them in succession. They make wonderful cut flowers, as the buds continue to open once the stems are placed in water. They are a great choice for a traditional cottage garden look.
