Wood Cranesbill 'Mayflower'
Geranium sylvaticum 'Mayflower' is one of the earliest hardy geraniums to bloom in the UK, bringing a splash of rich violet-blue to the garden in late spring. The flowers are medium-sized with a white eye and are held in clusters above attractive, deeply divided, mid-green foliage. This perennial is a selection of our native Wood Cranesbill, meaning it is perfectly adapted to the British climate and is exceptionally hardy. It has an upright, bushy habit, reaching about 60-75cm. It is an ideal plant for underplanting deciduous trees or growing in a woodland-style border, as it performs well in partial shade. While it prefers moist soil, it is relatively adaptable. Cutting the plant back hard after the first flush of flowers will often encourage a second, albeit smaller, display of blooms later in the summer and keeps the foliage looking fresh. It is a reliable, charming, and low-maintenance addition to any garden scheme.
