Wood Geranium

Geranium sylvaticum, known as Wood Cranesbill, is a robust and charming perennial ideal for naturalistic and woodland-edge settings in UK gardens, growing 60-80cm tall. From May to July, it produces abundant clusters of open, cup-shaped flowers in shades of blue, purple, or white, held above deeply cut, dark green foliage. It thrives in moist, well-drained soil in partial shade but can tolerate sun if the soil doesn't dry out. Fully hardy (RHS H6), it's a valuable plant for attracting pollinators and creating a soft, informal look. It self-seeds gently, forming lovely drifts and providing long-lasting colour in the mid-summer shade garden.

Sun: Partial shade.

Soil: Moist, well-drained.

Hardiness: H6 — down to −20°C.

Flowering: May, Jun, Jul.
