Dalmatian Cranesbill
A dwarf, mound-forming geranium that is perfectly suited for the rock garden or the front of a sunny border. It features small, rounded, glossy green leaves that often take on attractive red and orange tints in the autumn. In early summer, it is covered with a mass of five-petalled, clear pink flowers with prominent stamens, held on short stems. This species is particularly valued for its neat habit and its ability to spread slowly through underground runners without becoming invasive. It is fully hardy (H5) in the UK and is remarkably easy to grow in any well-drained soil. It thrives in full sun but will tolerate light shade, making it a versatile addition to an alpine collection. Once established, it is fairly drought-tolerant. Its combination of pretty flowers, tidy foliage, and autumn colour makes it a high-value plant for year-round interest in smaller garden spaces.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Well-drained soil.
Hardiness: H5 — down to −15°C.
