Snowdrop 'Hippolyta'

A darling of the 'galanthophile' community, 'Hippolyta' is an exquisite double-flowered snowdrop belonging to the Greatorex group of hybrids. It is named after the Queen of the Amazons and lives up to the title with its robust, rounded flowers and neat habit. The outer segments are clean white, while the inner segments form a dense, regular rosette heavily marked with green. One of its most distinctive features is the way the flower hangs in a very tidy, almost horizontal fashion. This cultivar is vigorous and clumps up well in the UK climate, making it a good choice for those looking to expand their snowdrop collection beyond the common types. It prefers a partially shaded spot in moist but well-drained soil that does not dry out in summer. Fully hardy (H5), it provides a delicate but noticeable presence in the late winter garden.
