Persian Lily

Fritillaria persica, the Persian Lily, offers an imposing and unusual presence in the spring border. It produces tall, sturdy stems, up to 90cm, crowned with a stately pyramid of nodding, bell-shaped flowers. These blooms are typically a deep, dusky plum-purple, almost black, with a slightly waxy finish, creating a dramatic and sophisticated effect. Fully hardy, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil that doesn't get waterlogged in winter. It's an excellent architectural plant for a mixed border, adding vertical interest and a touch of the exotic. The subtle, slightly musky fragrance adds to its intrigue.
