Fritillary 'Maximea Lutea'
Fritillaria imperialis 'Maximea Lutea' is a dramatic and imposing bulbous perennial, renowned for its stately crown of bright yellow, bell-shaped flowers crowned by a tuft of leafy bracts, resembling a pineapple. These striking blooms appear in mid-spring atop strong, rigid stems, reaching an impressive height of 80-100cm. The broad, lance-shaped leaves are arranged around the base of the stem. 'Maximea Lutea' thrives in full sun and prefers fertile, well-drained soil. It is best planted in a sheltered position in borders, where its architectural form can be fully appreciated. While known for its somewhat foxy scent, this fritillary makes a bold statement and is deer and rabbit resistant. It is an excellent choice for adding vertical interest and vibrant colour to the spring garden. Ensure good drainage to prevent bulb rot.
