Atlas Fescue Tree

The Atlas Fescue is a magnificent, long-lived evergreen grass that offers a much more substantial presence than the common blue fescues. It forms large, architectural mounds of fine, arching foliage that is a beautiful, pale olive-green or yellowish-green. In early summer, it produces tall, slender flower stems topped with airy, oat-like panicles that sway high above the leaves. One of its greatest strengths is its incredible resilience; it is highly drought-tolerant, wind-resistant, and thrives in poor, gravelly soils. Unlike many other fescues, it does not die out in the centre and can remain attractive for many years without needing division. It is an ideal plant for gravel gardens, sunny slopes, or contemporary architectural schemes. In the UK, it stays evergreen and provides excellent structure throughout the winter months. It prefers full sun and sharp drainage and is hardy down to at least -15°C. It is a low-maintenance plant that only requires a light 'comb' or trim of old flower stems in late winter.
