Umbrella Bamboo 'Robusta'

Fargesia robusta, known as Robusta Bamboo, is a popular clump-forming, non-invasive bamboo cherished for its upright, vigorous growth and striking appearance. This reliable species typically reaches an ultimate height of 3-5 metres with a spread of 1.5-2.5 metres, forming an impressive, dense screen or specimen. It is distinct for its emerging culms that often display attractive, contrasting sheaths – typically white or reddish against the green canes – which shed to reveal clean, upright culms. 'Robusta' is exceptionally hardy, rated H5, tolerating temperatures down to -20°C. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers fertile, well-drained, consistently moist soil. Flowering is rare. Its strong, vertical lines and evergreen nature make it an excellent choice for hedging, screening, or as an architectural feature in UK gardens.
