Bamboo 'Blue Dragon'

Often cited as one of the most beautiful bamboos available to UK gardeners, 'Blue Dragon' is celebrated for the intense powdery-blue bloom on its young culms. This clumping bamboo is a Borinda/Fargesia relative that brings a touch of the exotic to temperate climates. It typically grows as a fountain-shaped mound, reaching 3-4 metres. While hardy to H4, it is less tolerant of extreme frost than other Fargesia and performs best in the milder parts of the UK or in very sheltered urban microclimates. It dislikes direct, scorching midday sun, which can cause the leaves to curl, making partial shade ideal. The delicate, airy foliage provides a soft texture. It requires a woodland-style soil—rich in humus and consistently moist. This is a non-invasive species, making it perfect for smaller gardens where a stunning, non-spreading vertical element is desired.
