Hybrid Bamboo stick 'Obelisk'
Fargesia 'Obelisk' is a superb modern hybrid that combines the best qualities of its parents, F. nitida and F. robusta. The result is a bamboo with the extreme cold hardiness of nitida and the upright, vigorous growth of robusta. It is one of the most popular vertical bamboos for UK gardens today. 'Obelisk' grows as a tight, non-invasive clump, reaching up to 4 or 5 metres in height with an exceptionally narrow footprint. This makes it the perfect plant for privacy screens in small urban gardens or as an architectural pillar in a mixed border. The leaves are small, dark green, and don't curl in the sun, ensuring it stays looking lush even in exposed positions. The culms are green, often covered by decorative creamy-white sheaths. It is fully hardy (H6) and incredibly easy to care for, requiring only occasional thinning and regular watering during dry spells. It is a reliable, high-performance plant for any modern landscape.
Sun: Full sun to partial shade.
Soil: Any moist, well-drained soil.
