Dragon Head Bamboo

Fargesia dracocephala, or Dragon Head Bamboo, is a charming, non-invasive, clump-forming bamboo highly regarded for its distinctive appearance. It forms dense, upright clumps of slender, arching culms with relatively broad, dark green leaves, giving it a somewhat 'fluffy' or 'dragon-like' texture. The new shoots often emerge with a reddish tint. Reaching a manageable 2-3 metres, it is excellent for screening, specimen planting, or container growing. It is exceptionally hardy (H6), tolerating temperatures down to -25°C, and thrives in partial shade with moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil. Avoid strong afternoon sun. Flowering is rare. Its compact size and distinctive foliage make it a delightful and easy-to-manage evergreen addition to any UK garden.
