Hervey's Aster 'Twilight'

Eurybia x herveyi 'Twilight' (formerly Aster 'Twilight') is a star performer for the late summer and autumn garden in the UK. This robust perennial produces masses of large, daisy-like flowers with delicate lavender-blue petals and yellow centres. It is particularly valued because it is virtually immune to powdery mildew, which can ruin other late-season asters. Forming a sturdy, upright clump of dark green foliage, it reaches about 75-90cm in height. It is a versatile plant that performs well in full sun but is one of the few asters that will also flower reliably in partial shade, making it useful for brightening up darker areas of the garden. It is fully hardy and prefers a fertile, well-drained soil. The flowers are highly attractive to late-season pollinators, and the stems are strong enough that staking is rarely required. It is an excellent choice for a mixed border or a naturalistic planting scheme.

Sun: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Moist but well-drained soil.

Hardiness: H7 — below −20°C.

Flowering: Aug, Sep, Oct.
