Pencil Cactus 'Sticks on Fire'
'Sticks on Fire' is a stunning, highly architectural succulent that brings vivid colour to a collection. Also known as the Firestick plant, it lacks traditional leaves, instead consisting of smooth, cylindrical branches that resemble pencils. In bright light, the tips of these branches turn brilliant shades of orange, red, and yellow, appearing as though they are glowing. It is a tender succulent (H1c), requiring a frost-free environment year-round, making it an excellent plant for a bright conservatory or a sunny indoor spot in the UK. During summer, it can be placed outside on a sunny patio to intensify its colours. Like all Euphorbias, it contains a milky white sap that is toxic and can be a skin irritant, so careful handling is required. It is very drought-tolerant and requires minimal watering, especially during the winter. Its structural form and vibrant hues make it a standout choice for contemporary interior design or summer container displays.
