Medusa's Head
Euphorbia caput-medusae is an intriguing succulent that forms a central, swollen stem from which numerous snake-like, fleshy branches radiate, resembling the mythological Medusa's head. This sculptural plant is a striking specimen for a sunny conservatory or a very sheltered, well-drained patio area during summer in the UK. Small, yellowish-green cyathia (flowers) appear at the tips of the branches, often with white bracts. It requires plenty of sunlight and extremely well-drained soil. Protect rigorously from frost and excessive winter wet. Handle with care as the milky sap can be irritating.
Sun: Full sun.
Soil: Very well-drained gritty or sandy.
Hardiness: H1B.
Flowering: Mar, Apr, May.
