Golden Japanese Spindle 'Aureomarginatus'

This striking evergreen shrub is an exceptional choice for formal hedging in UK gardens, particularly in coastal areas where it shows high salt tolerance. The 'Aureomarginatus' cultivar features dense, upright growth with glossy oval leaves that are dark green in the centre and edged with a bold, rich yellow margin. It provides year-round structure and a bright splash of colour even in the depths of winter. Reaching a height and spread of up to 4 metres if left unpruned, it is easily maintained at 1–2 metres as a neat hedge. It handles hard pruning well, making it a viable alternative to the more disease-prone Buxus. While it enjoys a Sunny position to bring out the variegation, it is remarkably versatile and will grow in most soil types. It is hardy throughout most of the UK (H4) but may benefit from a sheltered spot in the coldest regions. Small, inconspicuous green flowers appear in summer.
