Spindle 'Silver Queen'
'Silver Queen' is a widely acclaimed evergreen shrub, prized for its bright and cheerful variegated foliage. The leaves are relatively large for the species, typically dark green with broad, creamy-white margins that often take on a pinkish tint during cold winter spells. While it can be grown as a bushy shrub, it also has a semi-climbing habit and can be trained against a wall or fence to reach heights of up to 2.5 metres. It is extremely hardy (H5) and adaptable, growing well in almost any soil type and tolerating full sun, partial shade, and even significant shade (though the variegation is brightest in sun). This makes it a perfect choice for brightening up dull corners of a UK garden. It is also very tolerant of salt spray, making it suitable for coastal locations. It is easy to maintain, requiring only an occasional trim in late spring to keep it within bounds and to remove any plain green or "reverted" shoots.
Sun: Full sun to full shade.
Soil: Any well-drained soil.
Hardiness: H5 — down to −15°C.
Flowering: May, Jun.
