Snow Gum
The Snow Gum, Eucalyptus pauciflora, is a striking evergreen tree originating from sub-alpine regions of Australia, making it surprisingly hardy for many parts of the UK. It is cherished for its beautiful, smooth, peeling bark that reveals patches of cream, grey, and olive, often developing attractive pink or orange tones, especially on mature specimens. Its long, leathery, lance-shaped leaves are a lovely grey-green. While it can grow into a substantial tree, it can also be coppiced to maintain a shrubby form. It prefers full sun and well-drained soil and is tolerant of exposure. The Snow Gum adds unique architectural interest and evergreen structure, even in colder UK gardens.
