Mahogany fawn lily 'Knightshayes'
An exquisite and sought-after woodland bulb, 'Knightshayes' is a select form of the American Fawn Lily. It is primarily grown for its stunning foliage; the broad, lance-shaped leaves are heavily mottled with dark mahogany-brown, creating a decorative carpet on the woodland floor before the flowers even appear. In mid-spring, it produces elegant, nodding flowers with recurved petals in a beautiful shade of clear, deep pink. These blooms sit on slender stems and have a delicate, graceful habit. In the UK, it thrives in cool, moist, dappled shade, mimicking its native habitat in the Pacific Northwest. It is particularly happy in the acidic, leaf-mould-rich soils of a woodland or peat garden. Over time, it will naturalise and form beautiful colonies if left undisturbed. It is fully hardy but does not like to dry out during its summer dormancy. This is a true connoisseur's plant that brings a touch of refined beauty to the early spring garden.
