Dog's Tooth Violet
Erythronium revolutum, or Dog's Tooth Violet, is an exquisite tuberous perennial native to North America, highly prized in UK gardens for its elegant spring display. It features attractive, mottled foliage, often bronzed, from which arise delicate flower stalks bearing nodding, lily-like flowers. These are typically a beautiful shade of pinkish-mauve, often with a darker centre, and recurved petals giving them a graceful appearance. They thrive in cool, moist, woodland conditions, preferring partial to full shade and humus-rich, well-drained soil. Ideal for naturalising in shady borders, under deciduous trees, or in woodland gardens, they create a serene and sophisticated early spring scene. They are relatively slow to establish but will form endearing colonies over time.
