Alpine Stork's-bill 'Album'
Erodium reichardii 'Album' is a diminutive and delightful perennial that forms a tight, cushion-like mat of tiny, scalloped, dark-green leaves. From late spring right through to early autumn, it is studded with a succession of relatively large, cup-shaped white flowers with faint pink veins. This plant is perfect for the UK rock garden, scree bed, or for planting in the crevices of stone troughs and paving. Because of its low stature, it should be placed where it won't be overwhelmed by larger neighbors. It requires excellent drainage and a sunny position to thrive; in damp or heavy soils, it may struggle over the winter. However, in the right spot, it is remarkably long-flowering and provides a refined, miniature ground cover effect. It is also suitable for a cold greenhouse or alpine house. Though it is small, its persistent blooming habit makes it a focal point for much of the growing season, attracting small pollinators.
