Foxtail Lily
Eremurus stenophyllus, sometimes listed as 'Bungei', is a more compact but equally captivating foxtail lily, celebrated for its slender, dense spires of starry, bright golden-yellow flowers. Emerging from a basal rosette of narrow, strap-like leaves, these elegant flower spikes stand tall, reaching 1 to 1.5 metres, creating a striking vertical accent in the summer garden. The vibrant yellow blooms open progressively from the bottom upwards, ensuring a long season of interest in late spring to early summer. Ideal for sunny borders, gravel gardens, or as a focal point, it thrives in deep, fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. While appreciating a sheltered spot, it is surprisingly hardy once established. A truly eye-catching plant adding architectural form and brilliant colour to the landscape. It is distinct from Eremurus robustus and himalaicus.
