Winter Aconite 'Orange Glow'

A rare and sought-after selection of the common Winter Aconite, 'Orange Glow' is prized for its unique, warm amber-orange flowers, a distinct departure from the usual bright yellow. These cup-shaped flowers are surrounded by a ruff of divided green leaves. It is one of the earliest plants to bloom in the UK, often pushing through the snow in January or February. Reaching only 10cm in height, it is perfect for naturalising under trees or in a rockery where it can be seen up close. The small tubers (often called 'nubbins') are prone to drying out, so they should be planted as soon as they are purchased in late summer, or even better, 'in the green' in spring. Once established, it will slowly colonise an area. It prefers a heavy, alkaline soil that stays moist throughout the year, even when the plant is dormant in summer. It is fully hardy in the UK (H6) and provides a vital early nectar source for bees.
